What an EA is
Enrolled Agents are licensed directly by the US Treasury after passing a comprehensive three-part exam on individual and business taxation (or through IRS experience). Unlike a CPA license, the EA credential is federal — it works identically in all 50 states.
What EAs do best
- Tax return preparation across every entity type
- IRS representation — audits, notices, collections, penalty abatement
- Tax planning grounded in current law, maintained through mandatory continuing education
EA vs CPA
Both have unlimited IRS practice rights. CPAs additionally cover audit and financial-statement work; EAs are tax specialists by definition. A firm staffed with both — like ours — covers the full picture.
